The Residents of Akoda Junction along Gbongan-Osogbo Expressway in Osun State, Nigeria, were submerged in tragedy the day before yesterday when a over-speeding petrol tanker was reported to have had a brake failure and slip away from the main road to cruch road-side traders and the people waiting along the road side to among which there were two children, leaving many injured.
However different people gave contrasting figures of the number of victims who were cruched to death because an eye witness said “A lot of people died in the accident but I cannot give an exact number because it was dark."
According to another eye witness 'Bode', “The truck ran over two commercial buses at the entrance of the motor park. There were traders by the road side who were also killed. The number will not be less than 20 but I did not count them.”
Contradicting the figures provided above is the statement issued by one of the Federal Road Safety Corps that, “Three adults and two children were killed. Five persons were also injured. It was a gory sight. The accident was caused by over-speeding. The tanker suffered a break failure and ran over those people. “We thank God the accident was not accompanied by a fire incident, it would have been disastrous. All those who were injured would have been burnt to death and even those nearby could have been burnt to death.”
